2009 twist on mod look
EVERYONE knows the mod-look made famous by the rock opera Quadrophenia. The sharp suits topped off with a fishtail parka for Jimmy (Phil Daniels) and the classic 60s twinset for Steph (Lesley Ash).
Set against the backdrop of riots in 1960s Brighton, the classic film set the mod look which is still adored by many today.
The classics are all still available, the Harrington jacket, the Fred Perry polo and the Penny loafer. All have been worn by boys and girls alike as the mod look has endured the decades.
To celebrate the arrival of Quadrophenia, the stage musical, at Plymouth's Theatre Royal, we decided to give mod fashion a 2009 overhaul. We chose Diesel, G-Star and Firetrap designs available from Conway Jeanswear to give Kelli and Ash an edgy 60s look.
Kelli models two G-Star jackets with the structured shape loved in the 60s. Her cheque blouse and dress have all the innocent elegance of that era.
Ash has skinny jeans and fitted shirts to replicate the sharp dressing of the 60s mod but we've given him a modern edge with our styles from Firetrap and G-Star. But we remained authentic when it came to Jimmy's classic fishtail parka. Gould's Outdoors in Ebrington Street supplied one of their ex-US army parkas, from their vast selection of army surplus as well as outdoor clothing.
Our models' hair was styled by Utopia in Mayflower Street to give a contemporary edge to the classic cuts of the young Phil Daniels and Lesley Ash.
Pictures were taken in Stoke village and Victoria Park, Millbridge.

“I wonder if Matt saw the show because it was excellent. I wasn't looking forward to it but it was a great show and did have you rocking in your seats. The only thing I did heard a lot of people complaining about was the leg room in the theatre. Even at a funsize 5ft 4 I was still cramped. The show did make up for that.”
