Mr Marley, 24, who lives in Hornchurch Road, Ernesettle, said he contacted the producers of the show after the breakdown of his relationship prompted him to re-assess his life.

"I have been on a bit of a journey for the last couple of months," he said.

"I was genuinely unhappy about my weight and wanted to have a healthier lifestyle.

"I was not unhappy with the way I looked, but I realised I needed to address issues for the future and get myself healthier.

"It has been really amazing. I have got to do some really cool things that I would never have got to do otherwise."

The show, which will be screened on Channel 4 tonight at 8pm, follows Mr Marley's experience as he travelled to Oklahoma City to meet a lady who weighed 50 stone.

He said: "She was wheelchair-bound, and the conditions she lived in where appalling.

"That had a big impact on me, it was quite upsetting."

Mr Marley lost one stone three pounds over the course of the show and says he is sticking to his new regime.

"I definitely feel a lot healthier," he said. "I have noticed my clothes fit better, I am feeling better about myself, which has been the best part about it."

“If one is an alcoholic one stops drinking, but you can't do that with food as you need it to sustain life.
However, a strict diet is the thing and if you wish to control your weight, rather than it control you, then you have to be strict. There really is no quick fix and excuses don't make the problem better only worse.
Life is about moderation and so is eating”

“Well done but he has only himself to blame. Common sense states that if you eat takeaways and have a unhealthy lifestyle and food= FAT.
I don't have sympathy for the fatties as they know what they are eating and calories intake. It is a selfish attitude and I don't understand how the unemployed are fat, untidy and messy when thay have all day to sort it out !!
If they are happy with there waistlines then dont complain stating " I could never do that" or I won't do that due to my belly".”
