93 per cent of first-class mail delivered on time

MORE than 93 per cent of first-class mail in the Plymouth area was delivered on time last year, Royal Mail said.

Between April and December 2012 deliveries in the PL postcode beat the target of 93 per cent of next-day deliveries, with 93.5per cent of first class post arriving on time.

Royal Mail said it also exceeded its standard retail parcels quality targets in the first threequarters of the year.

The target is for 90 per cent of standard retail parcels to be delivered on time. In the PL area Royal Mail hit 96.2 per cent.

"Parcels are a key part of Royal Mail's business, and their volumes are increasing, (up 5.6per cent in the year to September 2012) fuelled by the growth in online retailing," a spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said that 98.6 per cent of second-class mail was delivered within three working days of posting in the first threequarters of the year, exceeding the target of 98.5 per cent.

This was fractionally above the national rate of 98.5 per cent.

Nationally Royal Mail failed to hits its target of 93 per cent for next-day first class deliveries, achieving 92.2 per cent.

    “93% of first class mail might be delivered on time, but is it all delivered to the right place? I ask because last week my postman stuffed a government letter through my door which was meant for someone with a different surname, different address and different postcode - all of which were clearly printed and visible.”
