THREE people were taken to hospital after their vehicles collided on the A38 at Manadon  this morning.

The accident happened at 8.23am on the outside lane of the westbound carriageway, 500 yards from the Manadon slip road, police said.

The vehicles involved included a blue Vauxhall Astra, a blue Ford Mondeo and a black Vauxhall Zafira.

Paramedics were at the scene  within minutes after reports that a female driver suffered  possible spinal injuries, said a spokesperson from South West Ambulance.

He said that the patients were relayed to Derriford Hospital by ambulance complaining of neck pain.

Police confirmed that the road was cleared by 9.53am.

“Perhaps one day VOSA and the DSA will get Web 2.0 and the comments left on websites like this, and realise that many people really shouldn't be driving and think about how to improve driving standards?

The sooner they introduce the mandatory periodic retests the less deaths and serious injuries there will be on our roads and less economy hampering tailbacks.”

"i for one have been forced all the way to the end of that slip by lorrys and cars ....."

In case you don't remember the driver on the main road has the priority over the car joining the road. They are at no obligation to let you out, and you should be prepared to slow down or even stop if it is not safe to join.

Not just my opinion, that's the Highway code. No wonder there are so many accidents around Plymouth if this is the attitude of some people.”

“As a driving instructor who spends nearly 12 hours a day on our roads, I see a multitude of horrendous and dangerous driving. I agree with the point made that certain roundabouts/sliproads could be improved but as a driver, you should adapt your driving to suit conditions. Lack of mirror checks and signalling causes all sorts of trouble - it's hardly difficult is it! I do think dangerous drivers should be penalised more harsly and I detest the use of mobile phones whilst driving - those people in my opinion should have their license taken away.”

What?! You were literally pushed along with your foot on the brake? Wasn't there any damage? Did you call the Police?”

“'It's a dangerous stretch of road'?

Well all the more reason to be alert, monitor your speed and distances from other vehicles?

Another benefit of periodic retests every 3 to 5 years for all drivers would be that it would weed out all those fingerless drivers incapable of reaching the indicator stalk.”
