THE Sutton Harbour Holdings "masterplan" for the 113-acre airport site would create a new "urban centre".

Phase one: Commercial, retail and residential units, including an hotel and food retail store, plus the first part of a proposed park and streets leading to a new town square and high street.

Phase two (to 2026): a new primary school, library and community centre, more retail and residential blocks and a new pedestrian link to UCP Marjon.

Other proposed uses include a nursing home, office park, higher education buildings, energy centre and public open spaces.

    “These plans are the epitome of short term gain at the expense of long term prosperity - there is not a single development SHH could put on that site which would generate more income and tourism for Plymouth than an airport. Instead we see a single failing company helping themselves to a public asset at a personal cost to every single rate payer in the city. It is a disgusting situation that should never have been allowed to arise, and which should now be dealt with using the same content that SHH have demonstrated towards this city.”
