PLYMOUTH Argyle come home from Accrington Stanley 4-0 up and out of the relegation zone after a goal-packed afternoon.

Alex MacDonald put two away for the Pilgrims in the first half, the first coming just two minutes after the whistle and the second a left-footer from six yards out.

Loan-star MacDonald's first came after a back and forth with fellow striker Nick Chadwick, while the second came after Chadwick's attempt on the Accrington goal was badly cleared by keeper Ian Dunbavin.

Straight after half-time Plymouth's Ashley Hemmings almost scored another for the Pilgrims - but hit the crossbar.

Jamie Devitt, on loan at Accrington, tried to pull one back from 20 yards out but saw his effort tipped over by Argyle keeper Romain Larrieu.

Darren Purse put Accrington three nil down at the 71st minute with a header from the middle of the penalty area, kicked in by Paul Wotton, and Luke Daley came off the bench and sealed the deal with the fourth on the 90th minute after another failed attempt by Devitt.

“So, eddie_taylor, here's the 50th comment! Let's hope we have as much to be positive about after Saturday's match. Good to see Purse and MacDonald in the League Two team of the week.”

“Well done folks, at this rate we should get more than 50 comments on this thread - this goes to show the fans are openly getting more interested in our team. At the same time we are being educated, as follows: billhicks likes name dropping, learning about realistic, pessimistic, optimistic, passionately etc, etc; all in the name of being a Plymouth Argyle fan - yes it's great and no one is geting hurt or too upset.

The fact is we are a lowly 2 div club struggling to survive in the league, with an aim to start climbing the footballing ladder next term. We are not a big club, haven't got big named players and don't get your Mun Us or Chelsea's honouring us with their presence. What we do have is a club owned and supported by passionate people, staff that exceeded all levels of loyalty, a young and inexperienced management team who are doing a good job, with players who genuinely want to succeed. With our survival propects firmly in the teams hands, ever game will a cup final for them; over the last 6 league game they have proved their commitment and ability, now it must be sustained if we are to rise once more from the ashes. Just for the record (fact), our last six matches read as follows: Burton A won, Crawley T drew, Port Vale lost
[minor hick up], Southend drew and Accrington S won; that equates to 9 points from a possible 18 and we are improving all the time. At our present rate of progress we should survive, so us optimists may just finish the season with the biggest smug smiles, although we Argyle fans will all be laughing and happy.

Looking forward to our next cup final on saturday against D & R, just hope that Fletch and Ro continue to their jobs successgully.”

“For goodness sake stop all this personal abuse, as we are all Argyle supporters we surely want the best for our team, we all have a right to voice our opinions, but at the end of the day we should stand united and show our continued support for the club.”

“I agree with the previous comment....we are realistic...mind I have to admit that that some of the points raised by Iamapilgrim are valid although he is OTT with his assessment overall. Damn its so hard agreeing with him!!! :-) Never thought that day would come...”

    Absolutely spot on, dear chap!
What we need is realistic assessment, not deluded, head in the sand nonsense.Being realistic and supportive are not mutually exclusive.”
