Aldo's Jacko remix thriller
CITY DJ/producer Aldo Vanucci, who has established an international reputation for his re-mixes of tracks in a wide range of genres, keeps himself very busy on a variety of projects at all times.
But his latest is arguably one of his most exciting to date. He has been asked by Island Records to mix a Michael Jackson track for a new club remix homage album to the late king of pop.

OFF THE WALL: Island Records have asked Aldo Vanucci (above) to mix a Michael Jackson track
"I've done work for Island Records before, recording three or four tracks with Jay at Deep Blue Sound, and they said they'd keep us in mind for future mixes.
"They were looking for different workings of Jackson tracks and asked us to choose one of six on which to 'work our magic'. I chose The Love You Save.
"We've just completed the first stages and are in the process of going back to the label to ask them if they're happy with the direction we're taking.
"I'm such a massive fan, so this has been like a dream come true for me – once I've done him and Otis Redding, my life will be complete!"
Aldo explains that remixing tracks in different styles is a great way for record labels to remarket back-catalogue product, covering as many bases as possible, as they want different versions to appeal to different tastes. Drum and bass fans for example may not buy Michael Jackson records, but if they hear his vocals over a drum'n'bass vibe at their favourite club they may be tempted. "It's a great way of bringing old songs back to people who will then hopefully buy the new album of remixes at the same time driving sales of the greatest hits.
"It's all about putting the songs back into people's minds in a different way. At the moment his songs are everywhere, but in six months to a year when interest may have faded, hopefully this album will rekindle it."
There's never a dull moment with Aldo, who has also just signed two tracks to av8 records in the US, home of Fatman Scoop and The Crooklyn Clan, and a further four tracks to New York label Bastard Jazz who are doing an EP in August.
He has been asked to remix material by Bellruce (in a Massive Attack/trip hop style) and is also working with Australian funk soul singer Kelly Haydon on a reworking of Shake Your Body by Shy FX. The single is ready for release on Aldo's own label, Good Living, and the following album should soon be out on Freestyle Records.
Amazingly he also finds time to host a variety of different residences in different towns and cities. Monday nights he still runs drum'n'bass night Wonkylegs at Firefly (formerly Ride on North Hill) and on Wednesday's he's there again for his r'n'b night. He also runs a regular night at Sandsifter in Gwithian near Hayle and at the Time Piece in Exeter, and the Big Chill House in London as well as appearing at guest spots in clubs around the country. This weekend he's playing the Big Chill festival.
On top of that he's putting the finishing touches to the next Aldo Vanucci album.
"I wanted to put out a reggae mash up and planned to release it in the summer – but I can't wait that long so I'm releasing it now," he jokes.
"Hopefully it will bring sunshine into the clubs when there's none outside!"
