POLICE are still appealing for information about how a man was left with serious head injuries and left in a coma.

The 63-year-old was found by two girls at around 8.10pm on Sunday on rocks below The Terrace cafe, on Madeira Road.

The man had suffered what police described as "serious head injuries" and taken to Derriford Hospital where he remained in a coma. Police said the man – understood to be a specialist marine engineer – has now regained consciousness and was in a serious but stable condition.

It is understood he was last seen at around 6pm by friends in the Barbican area where he had met them for a few drinks.
