Plymouth Argyle banned from making transfers because of unpaid debts
PLYMOUTH Argyle has been banned from making player transfers as a punishment for failing to pay debts.
The Football League issued the ban because the club failed to pay creditors on time.
-

Argyle has said it is a technicality, and claims the situation will be cleared up by the end of December, ahead of the transfer window in January.
Keith Todd, Argyle’s executive director, said the embargo is "not a problem" and added the club "will be in the market" in January. No club in the country can sign any player until the transfer window opens on January 1.
"There is a temporary embargo but it has no bearing on our transfers," Mr Todd said.
"We will be in the market in January in the normal course of events. It relates to a historical issue and a technicality. It is not a problem."
Mr Todd said he did not wish to disclose what the reason was for the embargo being introduced, but added: "It is just an issue which needs to be resolved.
"It will get resolved and we will be fully in the market in January. It will be cleared. It is unfortunate that it has happened but it is absolutely not an issue.
"It has not affected how we operate and will not affect us in January."
A spokesman for the Football League said he did not wish to comment on the issue, adding: "It is not our policy to comment on Football League clubs which may be under transfer embargo or not."
The ban has been in effect for several weeks, according to The Times.
In the summer Argyle was taken over by a consortium including Keith Todd and Japanese investors.
The club has been struggling at the bottom of the league and last week moved Paul Sturrock out of the managerial role to make way for Paul Mariner.

“Nathaniel, Chuck isn't out of favour at Ipswich, he's been injured! They're desperate to have him back in the team!
And I quote: "We've definitely missed him and hopefully he may be available in the next few weeks," Town manager Keane told the club's website.
"He has shown a great attitude all through this recovery process and it will be a real bonus to have him back."

“So, if we really are in a financial mess how is stopping us dealing in players going to help? Another really constructive rule from the 'Sweet FA'. On the other hand, no one seems to want the out of favour players anyway. Perhaps the FA would grant us a special Ebay licence so at least we could move MacLean on in January!”

“Doesn't do much for our World Cup bid - incidentally, nice profile on us re the bid in the Times today well balanced. It all seems rather cart before the horse to me at present but I hope I'm proved wrong.
On another note - if we still exist and we win the bid to host matches in the world cup and our stadium holds 46,000 will the build the stadium so that they can scale it down after the tournament is over.
Even the most optimistic fan has to admit that even if we regularly played in the Prem we'd seldom get more than 20,000 even for massive games.”

“message to Paul Mariner. David Norris is out if favour at ipswich and he would make the perfect signing in january (If we can). I think he is exactly what the team needs. Bet we could get him back cheap as well. Worth a try!”

“What a sad,desperate season.
If we really have financial problems and gates of less than 10,000 why is there no-one at Home Park who has the balls to fill the other 10,000 seats for a fiver ?
Nothing is going to change attendance wise this year.
I thought Mr Stapleton was an Accountant.”

“well i for one will be there on saturday to support the team. Its no surprise that they are playing without confidence when there is so many rumours and backroom issues going on. Come you Green supporters, lets show up in force and pray that mariner will come up good this weekend.”
