FORMER Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Luke McCormick is moving to Oxford United from Truro City.

The deal which takes McCormick to the League Two club until the end of the season was announced by Truro chairman Peter Masters tonight.

McCormick has been playing in the Football Conference South for Truro on non-contract forms since November.

He was jailed in 2008 for killing two young boys in a car crash while drink-driving but was released in 2012.

Oxford will play Truro in a pre-season friendly at Treyew Road later this year.

In a statement, Masters said: "McCormick joined Truro City Football Club earlier in the season whilst the club was in administration.

"Given Luke's previous history, the club came under substantial criticism from both the local and national press, indeed some supporters voted with their feet which proved costly.

"That said, the club remained at Luke's side and gradually introduced him again to the game of football and more importantly the supporters on both sides."

Masters added: "Truro City is pleased to have been part of Luke's rehabilitation to date and wish him well for the future at Oxford United."

Argyle will play Oxford at Home Park in League Two on Saturday, February 16. They have already lost 2-1 away to the U's this season.

Oxford's first choice 'keeper Ryan Clarke has been ruled out for the season after undergoing a shoulder operation.

Meanwhile, Burnley's former Pilgrims' loanee Alex MacDonald has been borrowed for an initial one-month by League Two club Burton Albion

    “Agree wholeheartedly with ModestMod.

What happened, happened and is in the past. He has completed the sentence handed down by the justice system so time to get on with the rest of his life.

Glad someone has put faith in Luke - he won't let them (Oxford) down just like he never let us all those years ago in the days of the championship.

I wish him nothing but good luck and success.

“On purely a footballing basis, nothing else, this is a good signing for Oxford. He looked so promising for us in the Championship. It's a shame how things turned out.”

“Good luck to Luke, he has served his sentence and no doubt thinks about his mistake on a regular basis. It's about time he was back doing what he does best, he could certainly do a job for Argyle at the moment!”
