Two women arrested after chaining themselves to Plymouth bank
TWO women were arrested after chaining themselves to a city centre bank during a climate change protest.
The pair are understood to have wrapped bicycle chains around their necks and attached themselves to Barclays Bank, in Armada Way, at around 12.15pm yesterday.

The main entrance had to be closed throughout the incident, said police, causing disruption for members of the public.
The protest was organised by the Rising Tide group, who were campaigning against the bank's alleged investments in the coal industry. They staged the event to coincide with next week's UN climate change summit in Copenhagen..
Earlier this year two members of Rising Tide were arrested for glueing themselves to the Royal Bank of Scotland branch in Old Town Street in a protest staged to coincide with the G20 summit, while in April last year seven members of were arrested as they protested outside the Esso petrol station in Exeter Street.
South West spokeswoman Anne Smith said: "Our future is under a big threat called Climate Change and we, the people, need to take responsibility to do something about it."
Two women, one aged 35 and the other also over 18, have been bailed to return to Charles Cross Police Station at 12pm on January 19.

“If anybody has the inclination to look at global temperature changes on a really wide scale, they will see that the changes we have seen over the last 20 years are miniscule in comparison. That said, fossil fuels are running out so it makes sense to look at alternative energies, the problem there is the battle moves to the anti-nuclear activists and the ramblers against wind turbines. We have to ignore the minority groups and do the sensible thing here.”

“Kes quote- "according to the good book paybacks coming regardless"
But wouldn't you want to delay it as long as possible for the sake of your kids and their kids?
You could make a start by giving up your car.

“Consider this- 30 years ago scientists were all over the news about how a new Ice Age was on the way, but now they've u-turned and are telling us the Global warming threat has replaced the ice threat.
Can we assume that pollution has skyrocketed out of control so much over the past 30 years that it really IS causing global warming?”

“Listen up. This planet is millions of years old. Are you all so naive that in all that time you think there has only been one ice age etc? Get real. Man has no influence whatsoever on the climate. It's a cycle that occurs every so many thousands of years. The worlds resources will be exhausted and everything will die. Eventually everything will be rejuvenated and the cycle will begin again. No God and all that. Just common sense.”

“Yawn. Speculation again!
Elitist comments on others grammar and discounting their opinions because of their educational attainment.
"Evidence" from "trusted" sources...or so we are told; has any one of you actually read the methodology of the experiments? (In order to prove or dis-prove the theory)
What about all the dry lakes in Africa and the Americas? Does anybody know why that is? (The fault of Neanderthals perhaps?)
Personally I do not care about the climate. I love interesting weather and I'll be dead before the earth consumes itself.
Survival of the fittest and all that would suggest there will be winners and losers.....Politicians will win....those with fancy low-CO2 cars will soon be "shafted" by the next wave of taxation.....just imagine if we all bought a class A car...the price would soon hype up even though we are being ethically considerate on climate change.
What if we ditched personal transport and took the buses and trains? The system would not cope, the respective companies would make a huge amount of money (economy of sale) but the fares will be hyped up by taxation. Other forms of taxation will have to increase to fill the deficit.
To conclude: can we, as a modern civilisation, economically accept the concept of man-made global warming? Our lives will have to take a 40 year step-backwards to cater for the restraints we place upon ourselves.”

“Well actually Mike according to the good book pay backs coming regardless. I.Q linked to which side of the fence you are on? No convincing argument against mankind been the cause of Global warming? I could write volumes, but the fact that two thousand years ago the average temperature was two degrees hotter here in Devon than it is now is a start. Perhaps it was Iron Age man with his new fangled Iron process heating the planet up? As for spelling, apart from the obvious text speak dross I wouldn¿t read too much into it. I am often appalled at my own posts as there seems to be the occasional error in the Heralds text. I personally am usually doing two jobs at once so apologies that my attention to detail is not always what it should be. I wont tell you how highly qualified I am but I¿m not at entry level three that¿s for sure. I do find though that if you are well off it does not automatically follow that you have taste. Like wise if you have masters in something it doesn¿t necessarily follow you can work out how to open the door. I know, I have managed these people.”

“According to the good book, paybacks coming unless humankind cleans up their act; see if you can spot the ozone hole in this verse-
"And it shall come to pass, that instead of sweet smell there shall be stink; and instead of a girdle a rent; and instead of well set hair baldness... and burning instead of beauty."- Isaiah 3:24
"The time has come for judging the dead.. and for destroying those who destroy the earth" -Revelation 11:18”

“We see with our own eyes shrinking glaciers and ice sheets in TV documentaries made by trustworthy reporters, so obviously nobody's making it up.
A lot of muck is being pumped into the atmosphere, so surely that MUST be having an effect?”

“My wife and I have been reading through the comments on this topic. One observation we have made is that those who accept the existence of climate change have far better grammar than those who deny it. They also seem to have more cogent arguments and some evidence to back up their ideas. I would like to know whether there is any scientific evidence of a direct correlation between IQ and acceptance of global warming, or whether this is purely a coincidence.”
