Arts festival aims to cater for all tastes
SOMETHING for everybody is promised at Landulph Festival of Music and Art next month.
The mix to be enjoyed at the Tamar Valley village and its waterside neighbour, Cargreen, ranges from painting and textiles to classical, jazz and rock music.
The festival proper will run from October 3 to 11, but is preceded by a workshop by local artist Mary Gillett on September 29.
Mary will be sharing her expertise in engravings and showing how to make monoprints.
The event will be at the Rectory Room, Cargreen, from 2pm to 5pm, detail on 01752 842533.
The festival opens with an informal evening of music on Friday, October 3. Listen to the locals and join in if you wish (07768 763 0934). The venue is Crooked Spaniards Inn, Cargreen.
Running through the festival is an exhibition of photography on the theme Gaps and Gateways, which is free and in the Rectory Room (to exhibit, contact 01752 844811 or 01752 842533).
Accomplished vocalists with accompaniment come together for a classical music concert on the evening of October 4 in Landulph Parish Church. They are Jane Suckling (soprano), Kay Hughes (alto), Paul Shepherd (tenor), Stephen Trahair (bass) and Geraldine Wills (accompanist), singing songs ranging from from Flanders and Swann to opera.
The focus is on jazz the next day with trumpeter Bob Tinker. He and the Jazz Prophets – Viv Rodd, Larry Johns, Damian Rodd and Peter Kubrick-Townsend – will be playing a selection of standards culled from the bebop era of the Fifties and Sixties, swing and contemporary compositions, in Landulph Memorial Hall.
On October 6 Jenny Jayarajah will lead a workshop on creative textiles (Rectory Room, Cargreen).
Poetry features on October 7 with a nautical theme and a suitable venue, Cargreen Yacht Club.
Other events include a classical lunchtime concert by the Liskeard Chamber Players string quartet (October 8) and a percussion special at Landulph Primary School followed by a concert featuring the children (October 9).
On October 10 Feague will play folk music predominantly from Cornwall and the British Isles and October 11 will rock with Bloody Offal, a six-piece covers band.
