A NOTORIOUS yob breached his anti-social behaviour order because he wanted to take a puppy to his girlfriend, a court has heard.

Plymouth Magistrates' Court was told that Sonny Parsons, above, breached his curfew when his mother threw him out of the house. He was then spotted by a police community support officer taking the dog to his girlfriend.

Parsons, aged 20, was spared immediate custody despite being in breach of a suspended jail term when a district judge deferred sentence on him for three months.

Parsons, of Boringdon Avenue, St Budeaux, was made subject to a wide-ranging five- year order in January.

He was banned from every takeaway in the city at night and ordered not to enter the centre of St Budeaux. Parsons was also on a six-month curfew requiring him to stay at home between 9pm and 7am each night. He admitted breaching the order on March 5.

Eoin McCarthy, for the Crown Prosecution Service, said Parsons was spotted at St Budeaux Working Men's Club at 11.15pm that night.

The court heard Parsons was in breach of a suspended custodial sentence of four months from last month for assaulting a PCSO.

Geoff Parlby, for Parsons, said he had bought a puppy for his girlfriend's birthday but his mother did not want it in the house. Mr Parlby said that Parsons decided to take the pet to his girlfriend who was at the Working Men's Club, taking care to skirt around the area from which he was prohibited. He stressed that Parsons was not guilty of 'bad behaviour', had not resisted arrest and was not intoxicated.

Mr Parlby said that Parsons was seeing a psychiatrist and needed cognitive behavioural therapy. He added that he was moving on to a new medication and urged the court to give him time to see whether it tackled his behaviour.

Mr Parlby said that he was also appealing against parts of the order at Crown court. District judge Paul Farmer deferred sentence until June 7.

“I have the very great pleasure of knowing sonny. He is very misunderstood and, in my opinion, force now to live with what has happened. whether he is remorseful or not, i have witnessed frst hand, the police of plymouth goad and provoke him into a position where h can be nicked again. I know with the right medicatation, supervsion and motivation that this young man can achieve a lot. its just a shame he has backed himself into a corner now. i wish him all the best and will always be on hand toassist in his progression. as he rehabiliation and help that has been offered so far by council/courts/probation and alike is massively inadaquate.”

“Geoff Parlby said he was not intoxicated and was not gulity of bad behaviour!!! That is simply not true - he was very intoxicated (again) - and I suggest the magistrate speaks to the officers involved, reviews the evidence and then asks Mr Parlby to explain this statement.”
