PLYMOUTH Devils' new signing Ricky Ashworth has pulled out of riding for the city club at the 11th hour.

Ashworth, who was one of a band of new faces scheduled for the St Boniface Arena this season, has cited personal reasons for his decision not to ride for Devils.

Plymouth chairman and promoter Mike Bowden said Ashworth's decision had thrown the club's pre-season preparations into some disarray.

Bowden said: "We're a bit disappointed because there are six weeks to go until the end of the season and now we're told Ricky won't be joining us.

"We are looking for a replacement – either an Elite League rider or somebody with a high average.

"We are negotiating with someone at the moment, but he is proving to be a bit expensive."

Devils are preparing for a second season in the Premier League after making the jump from the National League.

“Here we go again!. Same as last year. Last minute panic. Take riders who are cheap, and unreliable, and ride most the season, with fingers crossed that we don't end up with the wooden spoon!!
Darn the expense, get a quality rider, so that the crowds continue to turn out,and get rewarded for their loyalty, and their part in being the top attended track, or is the "bit expensive" biting into your personal profits, a bit too much”
