A CHARITY night has raised money for poor children in Africa.

The event was organised by Debbie Williams, founder of Gambian Projects, and took place at the B-Bar on the Barbican.

There was music from singer-songwriter Ben Carr, as well as an auction led by an Elvis impersonator.

The money raised – £1,442 – will provide a container of goods for The Orchard, a school Ms Williams has set up in The Gambia.

She said: "It was a really fantastic night. A huge thank you is owed to Dan and Colin at the B-Bar and, of course, to our sponsors like Brittany Ferries and The Astor Hotel."

Ms Williams said she was also delighted to announce the setting up of a new committee, which will continue her work once she has returned to live in The Gambia.

Debbie can be contacted on 07739 797059 or via her www.gambianprojects.com website.
