PLYMOUTH Barbarians take on fierce city rivals Old Techs at Bull Point tomorrow (2.30pm) in a match that could determine who goes to the play-offs.

Techs hold bragging rights by just one point after a 6-5 win at Weston Mill earlier in the season.

They will leapfrog Barbs into fourth place with a similar result tomorrow. The top five teams will take part in the post regular season promotion action in February.

Barbarians' chairman Danny Avery said he expected tomorrow's game to be a hard one for his team.

He said: "When we were Plymouth Civil Service, we always had a good game against Old Techs and I don't expect that to change now we're the Barbarians.

"We are pushing to get into the top half of the league, but this is a game that neither of us wants to lose. On paper, it's our toughest game of the season."

In fact, the match is being sponsored by the local Civil Service Sports Association, who are presenting Barbarians with a new kit.

Barbarians were formed from the remains of the Civil side, who were ejected when the decision was made to put their former ground at Beacon Down on the market.

Barbarians, who have four games to make the play-offs, have hooker Adam Corbett back in contention following injury, while Jamie Harper and Aaron Anderson-Smith are also expected to return.

Nick Wheatley comes in for the injured Nev Blower at tight-head prop, but Dane Warwyck is likely to be out until after Christmas with a groin injury.

DHSOB will attempt to reignite their play-off push at lowly Plympton Victoria tomorrow (2.30pm).

The Old Boys – ironically a young team – are sixth and just outside the top five promotion play-off slots.

They started the season on fire, but a recent slump in form has seen the Old Boys drift down the table.

However, a win tomorrow at Marsh Mills would dramatically close the gap on Old Boys' city rivals Old Techs and Plymouth Barbarians.

DHSOB director of rugby Mike Freeman said his side were not taking anything for granted, despite Plym Vics' being adrift at the bottom of the division with minus two points.

He said: "Because of the weather over the past few weeks we haven't played and we are desperate to get a game.

"Plympton Victoria may be bottom, but they are going to present us with a challenge if they have a full side out.

"We know how hard it is going to be down there and we haven't been doing so well recently, but we have to start getting some points to keep up our challenge for the play-offs."

TAMAR Saracens will be looking to kick-start their weather-delayed promotion drive with a cross-Tamar derby at home to St Columba and Torpoint tomorrow (2.30pm).

Sarries have not played for the best part of a month, when they lost 19-10 at Plymouth Barbarians on November 14.

So, for chairman Huw Davies, tomorrow's game cannot come soon enough.

He said: "It's a little like the start of the season again for us as we haven't played for four weeks.

"The appalling weather has affected us badly in terms of game-time and we have absolutely no form to go on.

"However, the guys have trained well this week so we will be as prepared as best as possible by kick-off time on Saturday.

"Columba gave us a hard time at their place, particularly in the first half, and we expect another test this Saturday."

Tamar Saracens: N Knight, S Terry, G Simmons, G Davies, A Jameson, T Rodgers, C Coutts, G Hood, T Siggery, N Coutts, L Welch, D Wills, D Connelly, C Miller, M Cox. Reps: D Honeychurch, N McGuire, P Rapson, TBC.

PLYMOUTH Argaum, this season's Devon One surprise package, will be looking to add another two points to the tally which has put them in runners-up spot at Dartmouth tomorrow.

Dartmouth, one off the bottom, have managed just three points this season, but are capable of packing a punch at home if they can get a full side out.

Argaum: (from): E Notley, D Humphreys, M Handley, K Anderson, M O'Kane, J Venner, J White, J Theophanides (capt), C Hamer, B Millman, A Baird, J Ekins, J Twiss, A Critcheley, D Caers, G Michaels, T Hickey, I Miller, D Fuge.
