Ben Howard's Brits success
TOTNES singer songwriter Ben Howard had plenty to celebrate at the BRIT award ceremony on Wednesday night, writes Clare Robinson.
He beat off fierce competition from Plan B, Calvin Harris, Olly Murs and Richard Hawley to take the title of Best Best Male Artist.

He also pipped Jake Bugg, Alt J, Jessie Ware and Rita Ora to the title of Breakthrough Artist.
Ben, who launched his album Every Kingdom at the Hippo In Plymouth to an invited audience of family, friends and press, back in 2011, has enjoyed phenomenal success since being signed to Island Records.

By contrast, another South West success story, Teignmouth trio Muse opened the BRITs with a spectacular OTT display featuring orchestra and fireworks. The band, who honed their craft with intimate Plymouth shows before going stratospheric, were nominated in the category of Best British Group. The band have several BRITs to their name, but the award this time was taken by Mumford and Sons.
