Benefits case sentence due

A PENSIONER who falsely claimed £46,000 in benefits is still to be sentenced.

Kim Smith was due to face a judge at Plymouth Crown Court – but was too ill to attend.

Recorder Alastair Trevaskis adjourned the hearing until April 5. It is the third time the sentence has been put off.

Smith, of Windsor, St Martin's, Looe, has admitted three charges of dishonestly failing to notify a change of circumstances over six years.

He was wrongly paid incapacity benefit, income support and council tax relief because he did not inform the authorities of a Department for Work and Pensions pension.

Jason Beal, for the 57-year-old, said he was suffering from pain in his leg and back. Proceedings to seize assets have also been adjourned.

NEXT Saturday, March 9, St Stephen's Church, Saltash will be holding a Spring Fair.

A host of spring plants and bulbs will be on show to buy, together with many other stalls including handicrafts, Easter eggs, books, cards, bedding plants, stationery and bric-a-brac.

A SCOUT group is preparing for a bingo evening.

The 1st Plympton Scouts group is holding a family bingo evening on Saturday March 9.

The event is being held at Cottles Lodge Scout HQ on Station Road in Plympton where all proceeds will go towards the running of the group.

The event starts at 7pm and organisers are welcoming all to attend.

AN EXHIBITION of artist Bob Goodwin and friends is to be held at The Watermark Centre.

Landscape watercolour teacher Mr Goodwin will be exhibiting his own work and that of three of his students.

The exhibition is in the upstairs gallery at the Centre based in Erme Court, Ivybridge and runs from Saturday, March 2 until Friday, May 31.
