GARDENING equipment, logs and a fridge were completely destroyed in a fire which engulfed storage units in a Devon village.

Firefighters from Exeter, Bovey Tracey and Moretonhampstead were called out to Dry Lane, Christow, on Dartmoor, early yesterday.

Equipment belonged to nearby households.

Firefighters discovered two LPG cylinders were in one of three units.

The fire was believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.

Incident commander Roy Wills, who is based at Bovey Tracey Fire Station, said the building was completely destroyed.

"We were called at 6.10am after a person living in a building nearby was alerted to the fire.

"The caller owned two of the storage units and a neighbour owned the third unit.

"The single storey building had a shower room and three lock-up type units.

"We remained on the scene checking for any hot spots and dampening down until 9am."
