FORGET Boxing Day – volunteers held a 'boxes day' at a city church as they sorted through thousands of gifts aimed at bringing Christmas cheer to needy children in Romania and Ukraine.

The helpers got together at St Budeaux Methodist Church to sort and check 2,814 shoe boxes full of festive goodies donated to the Samaritan's Purse international relief and development organisation and its Operation Christmas Child appeal. Parishioners of churches in St Budeaux, which united under the Churches Together banner, donated gifts including toys, hats, gloves toothbrushes and scarves.
