DIVISION ONE WEST

Godolphin Atlantic...0 Vospers Oak Villa...2

VOSPERS' shambolic 4-1 home defeat by Camelford seems an age away now after Martin Burgess' side claimed their third straight win to shatter the G's 100 per cent record at Godolphin Way.

The visitors were quickly in the ascendancy and home goalkeeper Sean Semmens was forced to make two good saves and Scott Flannigan had cleared off the home goal line before they took a 20th minute lead.

Jamie Honeywill threaded a great pass through to Joe Jasper but even then the striker was left with an acute angle. He took no time to settle himself and he rifled his shot inside the near post to open his account for his new side.

The second half was again dominated by the visitors and it was no more than they deserved when the doubled their score five minutes from time.

Lloyd Russell closed down a defender to win the ball and put in Craig Brenton who placed his shot low past the Semmens.

Burgess said: "We cannot afford to become complacent and we have to keep this level performance going for the rest of the season."

Plymstock United...2 Hayle...0

AFTER two consecutive defeats away from home, the U's returned to their new look ground at Dean Cross to gain their first points of the season.

The U's were first out of the blocks and only a great saving tackle from Dan Jewell prevented Jamie Bass from opening their account after he had been set up by Aaron Hulme.

Although willing to attack at every opportunity, the U's youthful enthusiasm seemed to get the better of them at times when a little more steadiness on the ball would surely have brought a greater return.

With the hard working Elliott Harris proving to be a livewire for the visitors the home side were forced to take stock and they were indebted to the immaculate Ben Alcock whose last ditch interception prevented Gary Matthews from breaking clear.

With the interval approaching, the U's finally made the breakthrough when a Matty Howes cross from the right was met by Hayle central defender Rob Troon.

However, he only succeeded in turning the ball past Davy Cheal for an unfortunate own goal.

The second period began as the first had ended with the U's in the ascendancy and a Curt Kearney drive had Cheal at full stretch to save.

The U's youthful midfielder was not to be denied, however, and he added his team's second on the hour, taking James Yates pass in his stride before rifling the ball past Cheal from the edge of the penalty area.

Little was being seen of the visitors as an attacking force and it was the U's who came closest to adding to their total when Jamie Bass headed another Yates cross against the bar in stoppage time.

Okehampton Argyle...2 Callington Town...3

TOWN bounced back from two consecutive defeats to take maximum points from their first league visit to Simmons Park.

Both sides had missed chances to open the scoring in an even first 20 minutes but it was Cally who were to make the breakthrough when Chris Clarke's inswinging, left-wing, corner eluded everyone and sailed into the far corner of the net.

The home side were level on 39 minutes when former Millbrook striker Ben Waters and Frankie Nomah-Koneh swapped passes, in the Cally penalty area, for the latter to score.

The visitors were in determined mood, restoring their lead, in the last minute of the half, when Phil Burgoyne crashed the ball home from 15 yards.

Callington hit the home crossbar after the break and it was only good saves from home 'keeper Harry Gerring that prevented the visitors adding to their tally.

But on 79 minutes they deservedly increased their lead when Clarke converted Burgoyne's pull-back for his second of the game.

There were just three minutes remaining when Okey narrowed the deficit as Nomah-Koneh beat two players on the left before squaring the ball for Waters to fire home.
