JOHNNY COLEMAN could not praise Plymouth Albion's supporters enough after making his home debut against Worcester Warriors on Saturday.

The Irish winger was amazed at the atmosphere in Brickfields and was frustrated he and the team could not reward their fans with a famous win over the title favourites.

"The fans were just brilliant," said Coleman after Albion's narrow 26-19 defeat.

"They are incredible. There was not a moment in the game when we could not hear them.

"It was tough for those who travelled to Bedford the week before, but hopefully they will all take out the good things from Saturday's home match and keep coming to more games."

He added: "My home debut was bitter sweet.

"I was thrilled to get my first start at home in front of a big crowd, against a quality team and marking a good player, but I think all the team came off the pitch thinking we could have won the match.

"And that is a good thing.

"We really fronted up to a good team like Worcester.

"But I don't think anyone is happy with the result.

"We felt we could have won that game. There was not a moment in that game where we did not think we could win it.

"But penalties are just killing us at the moment. We are getting beaten on our own errors."

Albion had been crushed 51-3 the previous week at Bedford, but Coleman said it was not hard for the players to pick themselves up.

"It was not at all," he said.

"Graham (Dawe) and Nat (Saumi) said straight after that game that it had gone, it was in the past and it was crucial we stayed positive.

"It was said at training the Monday after Bedford that we had to move on and just take the good things from it.

"The one main problem we had at Bedford was with our defence.

"But our defence was a lot better this week. I thought we defended brilliantly."

Ireland rugby league international Coleman has joined Albion on a short-term contract.

He knows he needs to keep performing if he wants to earn a longer deal.

Coleman admitted he was a lot happier with his performance against Worcester than he had been at Bedford.

"You can never be settled," he said. "You always have to be looking to step up. I felt this week was a step up from the previous week.

"I don't think I helped myself with my 'D' (defence at Bedford), but I felt it was much better on Saturday.

"Also myself, Cameron (Mitchell) and Mark (Lee) communicated much better. I was much happier this week, but there is still room for improvement."

Coleman has started Albion's first two games, but he is not taking anything for granted.

"I don't want to get complacent and say that jersey is mine," he said. "Obviously I want it to be mine, no doubt about it. There's not too many (wingers) here, but it is not for me to take my place for granted.

"I need to keep pressuring myself. I owe that to Graham and Nat, who have given me the opportunity, which is all that I wanted.

"I owe it to them and the boys to keep working as hard as I can."

TYSON LEWIS, who had been on trial with Albion, played for Blackheath in National Division One on Saturday.

The winger had initially been named in Albion's development team to play Redruth on Sunday, but instead he stayed in London and played for Blackheath.

It remains to be seen if Lewis is going to return to Brickfields.

Young Albion players Jamie Tripcony, Chey Bryce, Jordan Patey and Gareth Espin have all joined Danny Thomas' Barnstaple on loan.
