A BUILDER was left with suspected broken bones after his dump truck tumbled down an embankment at a primary school.

The man, who works for construction firm Interserve, was carrying out repair work at Riverside Primary school in Barne Barton when colleagues said they heard him "cry out" at around 1.20pm yesterday.

He said both the company and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), would carry out investigations.

Riverside headteacher Brian Jones said six new classrooms were being built to expand the school.

"We called the ambulance service and three of my staff acted as first aiders to assist the man before the ambulance arrived," Mr Jones said.

"We hope he is fit and well and able to return to the site as soon as possible."

The HSE confirmed it would be carrying out an investigation into the incident.

The builder has suffered “potentially life changing” injuries, police have said.

An investigation into the cause of the accident is now being carried out by the Health and Safety Executive and Interserve.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police yesterday said: “The industrial accident victim suffered potentially life changing injuries.”
