PLYMOUTH diving star Tom Daley could be moving to Plymouth College from Eggbuckland Community College, following allegations that he has been bullied.

Tom's father Rob said the suggestion had come from a third party, and he will be meeting headteacher Dr Simon Wormleighton on Monday to discuss it.

Rob said: "Tom is fed up with bullying, mick-taking and having stuff thrown at him.

"Plymouth Leander (Swimming Club) is based at Plymouth College, which understands the requirements of elite athletes."

Rob said that at Plymouth College, which boasts top young athletes in many sports including swimming, cricket and modern pentathlon, Tom would blend in better.

Dr Wormleighton told The Herald: "We have a large number of very good international athletes who have potential for 2012.

"Here they can compete around the world while getting a good academic safety-net."

He said the school has 550 students of whom 120 are boarders, and most of the swimming students are boarders as they have to get up at 4.30am to fit in six to seven hours of training a day around their academic work.

He said the great majority came from homes which could not afford private school fees, but the school is a registered charity with scholarships and bursaries available.

Dr Wormleighton added: "We would like to have Tom here and think he would be well-suited."
