Burglars spent hours ransacking property to steal thousands of pounds worth of property
BURGLARS ransacked a house in Devonport stealing thousands of pounds worth of goods.
The 36-year-old victim, who has asked not to be named, said the crooks stole electrical items as well as jewellery of great sentimental value, much of which had been given to her by her parents when she was young.
Police say the crooks struck sometime between 8pm on August 7 and 10.40am the following morning at the terraced house in Alcester Street.
Investigators believe there may have been more than one burglar and they probably spent a number of hours in the property, hauling it away in a vehicle.
The haul included four Toshiba televisions — a 37ins LCD, two 32ins TVs and a 17ins DVD TV — four laptop computers, an Xbox 360, a PlayStation 3, a Nintendo DS, a Wii and Wii Fit board along with around 50 games.
One of the televisions had been ripped from the socket, pulling the plug off.
A solid gold bracelet was also taken, as was a disc pendant on a chain which was engraved with "K.A.D" on one side and a date on the other.
Crooks also took a gold eternity ring embedded with square diamonds, a nine carat gold ring, a hand-made white gold diamond ring with three diamond settings and one diamond missing, a sapphire and diamond Eternity ring, six Storm watches of varying sizes and a DKNY watch with a cream strap covered in splashes of red dye.
The victim said: "They've even stolen a wicker basket full of hairbands and flowers."
The victim, who had gone to a family party in Torquay with her son and daughter, said she has been left "devastated" by the burglary.
She said: "They took so much — they even took a cardboard box to carry things away in. They took bottles of perfume, a necklace I'd been given by my dad when I was five.
"It's awful that someone has come into my house and done this. If I didn't have receipts or pictures of me wearing the jewellery when I was younger the insurance company wouldn't have believed me. I'm still finding things missing weeks later."
"Around £2,000 worth of items were stolen, mostly electrical items," said a Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman.
He added that police are keen to hear from witnesses, particularly anyone who saw a man standing near the property on the evening. He was described as white, aged between 20 and 30, slim, unshaven and wearing a beanie hat.
In addition, if you are offered any of the items contact police on 08452 777444 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting crime reference number ED/10/4825.
