Bus lanes boost
THERE was a nice piece in The Herald (Friday) about the bus lane fines.
But I was slightly concerned that one other mode of transport was left out of your list of 'people happy about the fines' – motorcycles! As the use of "powered two wheelers" increases, the fact that 'traffic busting' bikes and scooters are recognised by our own city council and allowed to use the lanes, should be celebrated.
Bikes in bus lanes has been proven to not only shorten journey times and cause less congestion, but also cause fewer CO2 emissions. This was proven in a recent study across several British cities, comparing bus lane and non-bus lane use.
For your information, members of Plymouth Motorcycle Action Group are also happy about the fines. All we would change is the bus companies having a tendency to 'overfill' vehicles, thus causing what we regard as dangerous diesel spills within the lanes.

“No problem with seeing motorcycles in bus lanes, at least they keep up to the same average speed as the rest of the traffic. However the wobbly cyclists only SLOW down the other vehicles and CREATE more congestion. Sorry cyclists, despite all your Gucci kit, there is only one Bradley Wiggins, and it's not you.”
