Bus seats turned into trainers
A BUS company operating in Plymouth has taken a step towards a greener future – by transforming parts of its vehicles into trendy trainers.
Fabric from the seats of First's vehicles has been used to manufacture basketball-style sneakers, which got their first road test during a symbolic bus ride through the city.

The project, which has grown out of a link with Transport Recycling in Partnership (TRiP), is part of First's efforts to reduce its impact on the environment.
The not-for-profit scheme is part of the bus company's climate change strategy.
Manufactured by Above+Below London, which has already produced a selection of trainers cut from London Underground and British Rail train seat upholstery, the shoes are made entirely from recycled materials, including tyre rubber and First bus seat covers.
Robert Taylor-Read, projects director at TRiP, described the trainers as 'a relic of transport design heritage'.
He said: "They're comfortable, stylish and robust and I hope they prove popular in the South West.
"We've incorporated high-quality napa leather in the trim, using re-purposed chequebook wallets from a high-street bank."
Mr Taylor-Read also praised the bus company for getting on board with the project and helping produce what he described as 'one of the greenest trainers on the market.
"First has a commendable reputation for innovation," he added. "To have them support us is a tremendous boost for the business.
"TRiP is all about mitigating the environmental impact of transport and I'm delighted that FirstGroup has the vision and foresight to partner with us."
Footwear fanatics can purchase the limited edition trainers online, for a price of £70, from www.aboveandbelowlondon.com
