Business units go on show
LOCAL entrepreneurs are being given the opportunity to cast their professional eye over West Devon's newest commercial units.
On Friday, September 12 West Devon Borough Council is holding an open day at the flagship Okehampton Business Centre, part of the Opportunity Okehampton development.
Geoffrey Cox MP will officially open the units.
They are part of the £3 million scheme which has been hailed as a beacon for the sustainable development of commercial property in the South West.
West Devon Borough Council developed and manages the centre.
It is made up of 16 office and workshop units aimed at giving new business ventures across Tavistock, Okehampton and other areas of West Devon, the ideal start up.
They say the building is at the cutting edge of 'green' technology and is expected to save up to 50 tonnes of carbon emissions each year through the unique way it has been designed.
Features such as photovoltaic panels and a wind turbine to generate clean energy, the use of a wood pellet boiler to provide the building's heating, a high level of natural lighting and ventilation, the collection of rain water to use to flush the toilets and the use of low impact building materials have all contributed to making the centre a landmark development.
The open day will be held from 10am to 4pm.
