CCTV: Yob runs through shelter window in vandal attack
POLICE are searching for the culprits of criminal damage to the bike shed of Plympton Library.
On Saturday February 4, the same day the Library re-opened, the youths were captured on CCTV between 8.30pm-9pm.
PC Curno from Charles Cross police station said: "A group of youths congregated at the rear of the library, some of them are in a vehicle a gold Renault Clio, the driver has been spoken to, and the rest of them in a bike shelter. At first they don't appear to be up to much just larking around however it is not long before one of the youths takes a run at the plastic-glass side of the shelter and goes right through it. I believe that someone would almost certainly could recognise the offender."
John Didymus, headteacher of Ridgeway School, took photographs of the damage to show the pupils in an assembly.
He said: "We've got a good track record of working with the local constabulary and local people and we're doing all we can to get to the bottom of it. The community have been left outraged, it's appalling and the pupils agree, it's just unfortunate there is such a mentality."
Councillor Glenn Jordan, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: "We are absolutely appalled by the vandalism at the new library. We are working with the police to identify the culprits and ask that people report any suspicious behaviour."
PC Curno continued: "Criminal damage is so mindless and there is no reason or excuse for it at all, it just makes no sense. If anyone has any information please come forward so an incident like this cannot happen again."
Anybody with information is asked to call Police on 101 quoting crime reference EP/12/154.

“Cooperman. Seriously. Did you write that. Can't wait to read in the paper that someone trashed your house and smashed your car up taking your bank card and stealing your money but injured himself on a step as he left your property. I will then write that I hope he is ok but your place can be repaired. Your a fool Cooperman.”

“If more offenders were to be made to pay for the damage they cause, plus say 200% and the cost of the investigation, they might suddenly grow up!”

“Is that Clio on non standard wheels? Search the DVLA records for Clios between '98 and 2007 in registered to keeps in Plympton? Trawl through the ANPR records for Clios between that age that were recorded as being on the roads in Plymouth that day? Being able to identify what colour it is from that CCTV footage would narrow the search down.
Put an ANPR camera on a post recording all cars using that mini roundabout to access the Ridgeway car park, the library, Harewood House and the swimming pool?
There's CCTV footage from other cameras around the Ridgeway car park or in premises in the Ridge Way that have a light coloured three door Clio on it?”

“That car looks like a post '99 three door Renault Clio in a light colour with a factory fitted sunroof.
Well if the culprits are old enough to drive then they're old enough to be named and shamed in The Herald when caught.”
