Callington duo win P&D badminton tournament

CALLINGTON'S Julian Cooper and Hannah Robertson claimed victory at the Plymouth and District Badminton League's Christmas handicap tournament at Devonport High School for Boys.

The duo finished top of 14 pairs from eight different clubs.

The competition started with three groups, with the winners and runners-up going through to a knock-out round and the remaining pairs going through to a plate competition.

Cooper and Robertson won Group A playing off -4.

Group B was won by University's Dan Farrow and Bonny Mo playing off -6, and Group C by Callington's Dave Bartholomew and Hannah Kingman from BATS playing off +2.

After the knock-out rounds Cooper and Robertson (above) beat Greenbank's Gareth Pearse and Liz Marker of Ivybridge 21-13, 21-19 to take the overall title.

The plate went to University's Steve van der Park and June Teo who beat Plymouth Life Centre's Neil Hammacott and Jane Bryan 21-10, 21-17.

The tournament was organised and run by Gordon Hunt and Sandra Chenery, with trophies presented by league vice-chairman Chris Still.
