Police say traffic is free flowing.

Any witnesses to the collision are asked to call police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting log number 0555 of 13/11/2012.

The inside lane of the carriageway has been closed since shortly after 5.10pm tonight and will remain closed while police recover the motorbike.

The bike is understood to have been struck by at least one car after the rider was thrown from it while travelling at more than 50 miles per hour.

By good fortune, the rider, who is said to be in his 20s, landed on the grass verge rather than the carriageway itself and was treated by paramedics for leg and back injuries.

He has been transferred to Derriford Hospital on a spinal board although police said his injuries were not thought to be life threatening.
