The Fire Service received a call reporting a carbon monoxide alarm sounding at a home in the Eggbuckland area of Plymouth, on Friday evening.

Two appliances were mobilised from Crownhill and Greenbank, together with a third appliance from Crownhill equipped with a gas detector.

Upon arrival crews inspected the property with the gas detector, isolated the gas supply and used a positive pressure ventilation fan to ventilate the property as a precaution.

“missanthrope ... with you on that one . Everytime I make toast my alarms go off and no one cares . Just like a car alarm . No one looks anymore . For this to make news is mindboggling .”

“It would be safer and better for the environment if we went all electric via nuclear power, but it would be more expensive than cheap gas so I wouldn't hold your breath.”

“Can't gas be phased out nowadays, it's oldfashioned, its been around since Victorian times and is smelly and dangerous! I'm all-electric and wouldn't have it any other way..:)”

“(a) the correct headline is 'Alarm Goes Off Accidentally'
    (b) the fire services are not quoted about people needing working alarms
    (c) this is not a news story”

“Probably MissAnthrope because your neighbour's ginger tom will not kill you and your family whilst you are sleeping! I know it's not exactly riveting news but I suppose it kind of reminds people to be aware of how dangerous carbon monoxide poisoning can be... and at least the fire brigade weren't called to help your neighbour's ginger tom down from a tree.”

“Wow! Mind-numbing stuff! A carbon monoxide detector went off, although no actual carbon monoxide was detected. My house alarm went off last week when I hadn't spotted that my neighbour's ginger tom had crept into the kitchen before I went out. Why did that not make The Herald?”
