Carer who abused residents at Plymouth home avoids jail sentence
A CARER who mistreated three vulnerable people in a home has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Lewis Moore, 20, abused elderly residents in a care home and manhandled one woman up two flights of stairs, Plymouth Crown Court heard.

GUILTY PLEAS: Care home worker Lewis Moore
One vulnerable person was moved to call him a 'beast' and cry out for her dead mother, a previous hearing was told.
Moore worked at the Lambspark care home in Plympton looking after adults including some with Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and dementia.
Moore, of Millwood Drive, Leigham, pleaded guilty to three offences of ill-treating or willfully neglecting a person in his care who lacked mental capacity. The offences took place between November 2011 and January 2012.
Judge Paul Darlow handed him a 50-week prison sentence suspended for two years. He must do 200 hours unpaid work and pay £500 towards prosecution costs.
He said: "This sentence marks the revulsion of members of the community who realise the elderly are deserving of our care and respect."
But a statement from the owners of the home said: "While we respect the court's decision, we are disappointed that the sentence does not reflect the seriousness of Mr Moore's actions.
"His appalling behaviour, and the abuse of trust it constituted, was totally unacceptable. This type of conduct should never be tolerated in a caring environment."
The court heard Moore had made derogatory remarks to residents and teased them.
He manhandled one woman up two flights of stairs and put her roughly on to a bed.
Piers Norsworthy, for Moore, said: "He is at a loss to explain his behaviour and it may be he is just so ashamed, he is not in a position to articulate in any way that can be understood by others.
"He wishes to apologise to those who have been affected by his behaviour. He accepts it was completely out of order."
He added Moore had not only lost his job at the care home, but a more recent job as a driver following reports of his case.

“Why did the home let him do the so called offences for three months before suspending him, to me that let the so called abuse go on.....they need to answer a few questions as this had been reported before, if Mr Moore is that much of an animal they left him to prey on victims for a long time. Lets hope the home has sorted out its procedures out and this doesn't happen again......”

“As much as this disgusts me did the care home residents never complain to the home owner/managers? this would appear to be something that went on for a while and the home never had an inkling about it lmao and now they plead ignorance smells like passing the fishy blame on to me”

“My mother-in-law is in a nursing home and thankfully receives first class care. If he had done this to her, I would be waiting in a dark alley somewhere with a very large bat!”

“Justice? An absolute joke. This so called human being should be locked up at the very least. A suspended prison sentence and community service is no deterrent for other scumbags like Mr. Moore who prey on the most vulnerable people in our society. If it was one of my family members he abused and he received this so called sentence, Judge Darlow would force me to take the law into my own hands as justice clearly hasn't been served.”

“This scum should have been given a prison sentence worthy of the crime, it is hard to believe that judges and magistrates are allowed to get away with handing out such powder puff punishment, this a crime in itself, i wonder if they would do the same should it have been a loved one of their own being subjected to such disgraceful abuse?”

“How the hell can a suspended sentence be justified for this? Are our jails that full? There`s always room for little old ladies who withhold a portion of their council tax as a protest though.”
