“Wilfwastheman - Agree entirely with your post and know like the rest on here we need 2 strikers ASAP. The fireman may be able to be of use if he is fed well enough (play wingers) but donkey 1 and 2 Feeney and Chadwick need retiring to a nearby field and put out to grass.

Sorry to see anyone lose their job (I know that feeling) BUT this has been in the offing for a while and based on results there was no way back. There was never going to be a right time but as the saying goes "no time like the present".

I hope that the club still sign MacDonald and also get a good manager in without the need for a director of football. I am not a fan of any player for the club returning as manager - it rarely works - Hodges, Mariner, Fletcher are proof of this so sorry I won't vote for Keith Hill. I am sure the regulars will put me right as to others who have done good though? I would however go for Phil Brown or Shaun O'Driscoll though but the budget will determine who we can afford.

I had no transport to go to Bristol so unable to comment on the game but as sure as day follows night, points make prizes and we need a new manager in soon enough who is prepared to grab the mantle with both hands and pull us away from the trap door. I doubt we will get anything from Port Vale but stranger things have happened.

“You might be right Wilf. It's not just our forwards failing to score though. We've been too soft defensively and not scoring enough from set-pieces. Improvements in these two areas alone should see us getting a better points per game ratio which should be enough to keep us up.”

Carl's time at PAFC has been a disaster. Two successive relegations as captain, triggered a clause in his contract which gave him another 12 months as a footballer (when he clearly wasn't fit to see the season through as a footballer) on a lucrative wage at a time when we needed his wage off the books and played a part in the sacking of Peter Reid. His sacking as manager has been long overdue.

Let's just hope the next appointment is the right one and not another 'job for the boys' type. Let's hope we can make it through to the summer with our league status intact, have a good clearout of the expensive deadwood at this club and push on from there. It wont be easy and it'll probably be ugly for the next few months but it's certainly doable with or without any new signings this month.”

“Look, I don't have to justify how I feel about Fletcher being sacked. he gave alot to the club... mainly as a player, but he was never the man for the job.

There is alot of work to be done now. Beginning with appointing the right candidate, but this was always going to be the first step in my opinion. I just hope the board make the correct decision regarding his replacement.

If not we could be stuck in this mess for years to come.
