“The message "Christmas is coming, don't drink and drive" is what I am reading into this.
Unfortunately, the Penalties are punitive. Along with the Mandatory 1 year ban, a Mandatory £1,000 fine should be introduced.
The same penalties that were being handed out 25 years ago.
Make the Fine fit the Crime!”

“Scary that so many people drink-drive. On the other hand those articles show how messed up sentencing is. Jailed for minor theft, but fined a silly amount for assault! I wonder if they have some kind of wheel of fortune type of thing and just spin it to give out random sentences!”

“Love that everyone has picked up on the same thing!!!
Although being jailed for 14 days when someone else just has to pay a fine confuses me somewhat! Not that I condone either, obviously!!!

“"STEFAN BROWN, aged 23, of Wolsdon Street, Plymouth: attempted theft and criminal damage to a window – jailed for 56 days."

Must have been a big window? maybe the printer was too big?

"DONALD MURRAY, aged 38, of Alexandra Road, Mutley, Plymouth: theft of a printer – jailed for 14 days."

this guy obviously cam along afterwards; a big and expensive printer then...or this chap has alot of 'previous' - otherwise the sentence is nuts!

"ARL CARRINGTON, aged 44, of Foliot Avenue, Plymouth: assaulting a man by beating him – 12-month community order with 60 hours unpaid work."

So moral of the results above - you can kick the **** of of anyone and get a petty fine and some community service hours - but whatever you do - dont nick a printer or smash a window...or you get locked up in prison?

What kind of 'acts' are they trying to enforce on us?

None of the above makes much sense...”

“I notice again that theft gets a prison sentence, but assault doesn't.”
