CASPER the commuting cat became a worldwide celebrity within hours of appearing in The Herald.

We yesterday reported how the carefree feline regularly travels around town on First's number 3 bus from his Barne Barton home.

Having proved a hit with drivers and passengers, Casper's story has captured the attention of media far and wide.

The headlines came thick and fast as the Plymouth puss featured on websites from England's tabloids to the USA's mystateline.com.

The Sun declared that 'Stowaway Cat gets bus-ted', while The Press Association went with 'Joyrider Casper given a puss pass'.

Teletext merely stated 'Cat enjoys free bus rides'.

He also appeared on a diverse range of other websites including Yahoo, Virgin Media, The Sheffield Telegraph, Bury Free Press and thisislancashire.

Casper lives with his owner, Susan Finden, who picked him out of a rescue home in 2002.

She says he has always been a free spirit and named him after Casper the cartoon ghost due to his regular disappearing acts.

“I have 6 pet scoripions, named after the Hoff, each one is called Hoff1 Hoff2 Hoff3 etc.
I am planning to sit them on my lap on the bus, and let passengers stroke them. They don't sting so they are safe. They are even cat friendly.

“Good to read a good news story. Reminds me of the 2007 report of a cat called Sergeant Podge who went out at the same time each morning and waited to be picked up by his owner by car at the same time.”
