ESTATE agent Chris Mervyn is swapping property schedules for running shoes.

For keen meningitis fundraiser is taking on his biggest challenge to date – running the London Marathon in April.

Chris, who has been raising cash for The Meningitis Trust for two years, didn't hesitate when they asked him to step up to the challenge.

He said: "I really want to seize the day and raise awareness and money for all the good work the charity does."

His inspiration attitude comes after his friend's son and his own nephew were both diagnosed with the killer illness.

Although both little Tom and Caspar survived, Chris felt compelled to do anything he could to help youngsters like them and their families. He said: "It was a scary time.

"Caspar was lying there lifeless and my little brother, although showing steely resolve, was in bits."

The next few months are sure to be testing.

Chris will have to squeeze in training between managing the busy Mansbridge and Balment independent estate agent.

But he is determined to succeed.

Chris said: "Whatever I can do in order to help raise awareness has got to be a good thing.

"The hardest part will be raising my goal of £1600, with everyone under the cosh financially it'll be a struggle."
