TALENTED young filmmakers from across Plymouth celebrated at the annual Young Motion Plymouth Awards evening.

The budding filmmakers created movies for the annual competition which is now in its fifth year and winners were presented with their awards by a string of filmmakers including BAFTA winners Paul Roberts and Rob Dudley.

Heather Ogburn, Organiser of Young Motion Plymouth, said: "This is our fifth year and the most exciting. We have had so many stunning entries and we're sure the best of Plymouth's young filmmakers are represented here tonight."

Hundreds of special guests were at the Theatre Royal for the 'High Five' ceremony on Monday night, including the Lord Mayor of Plymouth, Cllr Peter Brookshaw, and the Plymouth City Council leader Cllr Vivien Pengelly.

Young Motion Plymouth is a citywide short film competition for young filmmakers led by Plymouth City Council and this year was sponsored by the British Art Show 7 and supported by the Theatre Royal and Pyramid Presentations.

Cllr Sam Leaves, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People said: "Young Motion Plymouth has become a valued date in the diary for schools and young people.

"The competition gets tougher every year and I'm always so impressed by the talent and skills our young people show."

Students from Marlborough Primary School were delighted to be involved in the evening.

Daniel Oliver, aged 11, said: "I think the film we made is quite good."

Luke Hickman, aged 12, said: "I played the part of an interviewer in the team and went to different places to film like a cemetery and the Guildhall in Devonport."

Winners received a range of prizes including the unique and highly coveted 'Frankie' award, the chance to see their entries on the big screen and work experience with Paul Roberts Sound and Plymouth production company Two Four. Lord Mayor Cllr Peter Brookshaw said: "This is a fantastic evening for the youth of Plymouth. It goes to show what talent we have in the city.

Alongside the 2011 Frankies were awarded in categories linked to the major sponsor, British Art Show 7, High Five Frankies were awarded in celebration of its fifth birthday.

Those films were selected by ambassadors from all the winning films across the last five years to represent the best of the best.

Emily Full, aged 11, from Dunstone Primary School, won a Frankie in the first year of the awards.

Emily said: "I'm really happy to be here again and proud. It's exciting."

Chris Martin, aged 17 from Devonport High School for Boys attended the event for the third time after three nominations in three consecutive years.

Chris said: "It was great fun working on the documentary – it took about 30 hours to make. There were four people in my group and we made a documentary about a mock band called 'The Deep Run Roads' and we went to the woods and university to film the music videos."

Caitlin Secker, aged 10, from Plympton St Maurice Primary School, said: "I'm really excited to be here."
