City firms among best for customer service
FOUR Plymouth firms have won customer service awards in a national campaign to find the best local businesses across the UK.
Two garages and two pet shops were chosen to receive Swift Awards following a "rigorous" judging review, which assessed a shortlist of more than 50 companies and retailers across the area.
The triumphant quartet are Plympton's SLC Garage Limited, Whites Autocentre, in Stonehouse, Alpine Pet Shop, in the city centre's Cornwall Street, and Crownhill Pet Supplies, Morshead Road.
The "tough" criteria investigated how each business sets prices, resolves complaints, retains loyal customers and exceeds expectations.
All four firms will now be featured on www.SwiftRelief.co.uk, an online directory that gathers together Britain's best local businesses, created by motor and pet insurer swiftcover.com.
SLC Garage Limited, an independently-owned garage, impressed judges with its commitment to customer satisfaction and its value for money service.
Owner Louise Steventon said: "We're constantly doing special offers, we source the best value parts for our customers, and we basically say 'you name it, we'll do it'."
Whites Autocentre has built a reputation thanks to excellent customer service. Owner Bill White said: "We have been operating in Plymouth for 35 years and rely on our word of mouth and our reputation for our custom. Our reputation keeps people coming back."
Tina Shortle, marketing director of online insurance company, swiftcover.com, which sponsors the Swift Awards, explained the thinking behind the awards.
She said: "Organisations like garages rarely win awards, despite being vital businesses within the community — but uncovering hidden gems in Plymouth is what the Swift Awards are all about.
"As the current economic climate increases pressure on local businesses we have been delighted to see that many organisations have turned their attention to improving service in order to retain customers and better their businesses.
"We wanted to find those businesses in Plymouth that were providing great service to the local community and our judges were inspired by the dedication and enthusiasm of all of our winners, who frequently exceed the call of duty."
Organisers of the Swift Awards are calling on more businesses from Plymouth to put themselves forward for the awards scheme.
To be considered for the award, businesses can either nominate themselves or encourage customers to nominate them via the website www.swiftrelief.co.uk.
Nominated businesses are assessed by an independent panel of judges and a team of mystery shoppers. There is no fee to enter.
