City music fest is a real class act
THE 2012 City of Plymouth Music Festival runs from Monday, November 12 to Saturday 17.
Instrumental classes run Monday-Wedneday (adjudicator Helen Deakin), vocal classes Thursday-Saturday, with school choirs classes on the Friday morning (adjudicator Marilyn Hill Smith, Mother Abbess in the Theatre Royal's Sound of Music a couple of years back).

All classes are held at the Methodist Central Hall, sessions starting at 9.30am, 2pm and 6pm daily – except Monday (begins at 11.30), and Thursday (no morning session).

Meanwhile preparations for next year's 23rd Saltash Music Festival (January 28-February 10) are under way and organisers are also hoping for an increase in entries.

Plymouth and District Organists' Association is sponsoring an illustrated talk on the 18th-century composer and organist John Alcock, sometime organist at St Andrew's Minster Church, at Plymouth's Emmanuel Church on Tuesday November 13 at 7.30pm by Dr Peter Marr.
The event is open to the general public, with a retiring collection in aid of the association's tuition scheme.
