RISING Plymouth rugby stars Henry Slade and Jack Arnott have been named in England Under-20s elite playing squad for the 2012/13 season.

Also included in the 32-man party is Luke Cowan-Dickie, who, like Slade and Arnott, is dual registered with Plymouth Albion from Premiership club Exeter Chiefs.

Slade, The Herald's young sports personality of the year in 2011, and Cowan-Dickie were part of the England Under-20 squad for this summer's Junior World Cup in South Africa.

But former St Boniface and Ivybridge Community College pupil Arnott is still waiting for his under-20 international debut.

The back, who turned 19 on Sunday, had been due to be on the bench for England Under-20s against Italy in the Six Nations Championship last season but the match was postponed due to bad weather.

Both Slade, a former Plymouth College pupil, and Arnott, featured in Albion's 27-22 win over Doncaster Knights at the weekend.

England head coach Stuart Lancaster is hoping that the current crop of young England players will be pushing for senior honours soon.

Lancaster said: "The England Under 20 squad is once again a strong one and the amount of competition for places in each position reflects well on the work the regional academies at the clubs are doing.

"A lot of the players in this squad have come through our age group international programme.

That goes to show how well the development pathway is working with players progressing through from the 18s into the under 20s and then, hopefully, pushing for places in the senior and saxons elite player squads."

Former Albion player Jack Nowell is also in the party.

Nowell was dual registered with Albion last season, but was replaced by Arnott in January due to injury.

Nowell is now dual registered with the Cornish Pirates, whom Albion play at Mennaye Field on Sunday.
