POLICE believe arsonists were responsible for two fires which reportedly damaged buildings at Lipson Community College.

The first incident was reported to emergency services at about 8.05pm on Thursday at the college in Bernice Terrace, Lipson.

On arrival a fire crew from Greenbank found a small rubbish fire outside one of the school buildings.

"The dance studio was slightly smoke logged and the crews ventilated the building," a Devon & Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said.

"The police also attended the incident due to arson suspected."

Then at 8.30am another rubbish fire was reported at the college and the same fire crew attended the scene.

"The adjacent building was slightly damaged by fire and the inside of the building was smoke logged," the spokesman said.

"The crews ventilated the building using a positive pressure ventilation fan."

The police again attended due to suspected arson.

But Lynda Mctier, assistant principal at Lipson Community College, yesterday refuted the claims stating said there was no damage to any building at the site.
