Street party for Plymouth city centre after light switch-on was scrapped
A SPECTACULAR festive street party will be taking over the city centre this month.
The celebration has been arranged after torrential rain and high winds forced organisers of the Christmas lights switch-on to cancel the event planned for November 22.
Now city bosses have announced a night of entertainment for December 20.
The programme will be similar to that of November 22 and will include the Military Wives Choir.

Plymouth City Centre Company and Plymouth City Council have organised the event, which will also be featuring Joker and Gaga Unleashed as well as Pantomime stars Christopher Biggins and Basil Brush.
The festivities will begin at 4pm at Cornwall Street and being the last Thursday before Christmas the shops will also be open late for last-minute purchases. There will also be celebrations of the fantastic achievements of some very special Plymothians between 6.15pm and 6.30pm.
Clint Jones, Plymouth City Centre manager, said: "We were so unlucky with the torrential rain and gale force winds which resulted in our November 22 event being cancelled.
"Despite the rain our spirits have not been dampened. The entertainment at the lights switch-on is so important for the city that we couldn't let Christmas happen without it. We are delighted to be able to re-schedule the event as a Christmas celebration and to share a fun-packed festive party with everyone in the city."
The event, which is free, will be based at Cornwall Street on the Heart FM stage and no tickets are required.
Deputy Council Leader Peter Smith added: "We know how much everyone looks forward to the Christmas celebrations in the city centre and we're really pleased that all of the original guests and performers are able to take part on December 20.
"There's bound to be a great atmosphere as people count down the last few days to Christmas and this will be the perfect way to kick off all the festivities."
