Community trust could be created for north of city
THE council is to spend £50,000 on looking at setting up a community trust for the north of the city.
The trust, similar to the Wolseley and Millfields trusts, will help to create jobs and new businesses and engage the community.
It will cover Whitleigh, Honicknowle, West Park, Ernesettle, Manadon, Widey, Derriford West and Crownhill.
Plymouth City Council's Cabinet yesterday allocated £50,000 to pay for feasibility studies.

A number of ideas have been put forward to give people a flavour of what sort of enterprises might be set up, including employment and training services, local food outlets, a community waste recycling enterprise as well as a community hub which would have small business units. Council leader Tudor Evans, whose portfolio includes growth, said: "We've been talking to people about the sort of set-up they'd like to have and discussing opportunities these could create.
"Regeneration is not something that can just pop up. It needs the active involvement and ideas of everyone in that area. It is about galvanising and inspiring people to feel part of something."
The Cabinet agreed to hold off selling 11 pieces of unused property or land in the area which could be used by a future economic development trust as headquarters or assets. Cllr Mark Lowry, the Cabinet member for finance, said: "Once this trust is up and running it will have considerable assets to use."
David Draffan, the council's assistant director of development, told Cabinet members: "This report sets out the need for intervention with high unemployment and high youth unemployment relative to other parts of the city."
