Corr welcomes fresh start with Grecians
BARRY Corr hopes that his injury nightmare is at an end as he aims to resurrect his career at Exeter City, after signing a one-year deal with the Grecians on Thursday.
The 24-year-old striker was available on a free transfer after being released by Coca-Cola League One rivals Swindon Town last season. Ever since he graduated from the Leeds United Academy, the 6ft 3in Irishman has been plagued by back and shoulder injuries. As a result, Corr has made only 64 career appearances since his first-team debut for Sheffield Wednesday in September 2005.

Working hard: Barry Corr
However, with the Grecians adding Ian Andrews to their coaching staff this summer to focus on sports science and physiotherapy, Corr believes the former Leicester City and Celtic goalkeeper can help get his career back on track and put an end to his injury nightmare.
"The manager said he had invested a lot of money in the staff and he wants to get the best out of the players he has, and obviously I want to be the best I can be and do well here," Corr said. "There are a lot of staff, but I'm sure they will look after us.
"I have had a bad injury record and Ian came to see me when I had my medical and went through some exercises with me. He is a really good physio and is in charge of the sports science, and it will be really good to work with him.
"I hope the injuries are behind me now. You can never say never, but Ian sat me down and spoke to me and he told me about injuries I had before I had told him, because he could tell from my posture and things. He has been working on correcting that and he says I shouldn't have many problems. That was a big part for me, I just want to stay injury free and play a full season and see how I get on."
Corr came to England as a 16-year-old from his home town of Wicklow, but he never made a first-team appearance during his time with Leeds. Paul Sturrock, now in charge of Plymouth Argyle, took him to Hillsborough before he swooped for Corr again after being appointed Swindon Town manager.
After being released by the Robins, a lengthy telephone conversation with Steve Perryman convinced Corr that Exeter was the right place to get his career back on track.
"It's really exciting, obviously the club has had two promotions in a row and I spoke to the manager and Steve Perryman and they really sold it to me," Corr said. "They really want to take the club forward, there are good people here and I'm looking forward to getting started.
"Steve Perryman phoned me up and spoke to me. He kept me on the phone for about two hours! I don't think I had an option but to sign! I had a few offers, but the way the club is run – it is a small club, but it seems to be run the right way – and the manager, who seems quite ambitious, made me want to come. I'm looking forward to starting."
Now injury free, Corr is determined to stake his claim for a starting place when Exeter return to his old club Leeds for their opening League One fixture on August 8. "I'm looking forward to that, it's a great start to the season for the fans as well as the lads," he added.
"We are straight into it, playing Leeds and then QPR (in the League Cup) as well, and then Norwich. It's a great start to the season and everyone is looking forward to it.
"They are brilliant fans at Leeds and I'm sure they will have 25,000 on the first day, but we can go there and win the game. It's not the Leeds of old, they are a good side, but there is no reason why we can't go there and win. It's a great stadium and a brilliant atmosphere."
