Cost of traveller site
IN YOUR Say (September 8) you published a letter indicating the cost to taxpayers, for a single traveller pitch was £5,000. Having checked the Council Cabinet report for August 2011, the stated cost for provision of a 15-pitch site is £790,000 making it around £52,666 for each pitch, a tenfold increase on the stated figure. This is an extraordinarily high figure, and one wonders with the recession in the building trade, what the true cost would be to put down a slab of concrete and connect it to water and electricity.

“You'll probably find that the PCC have a partnership deal with many contractors. These partnerships work very well... for the contractor. Not only do they have the monopoly on the work but they can, within their scope of works, charge as much as they like.
Contractors like partnerships, especially with organisations (and I use that term loosely) who don't know much about contracting.
Easy money.”
