Council's £8,800 committee rooms facelift slammed
A TORY councillor has attacked plans to redecorate committee rooms at the Council House.
Members of Plymouth City Council were warned that over the next six weeks the Cabinet office, group rooms and committee rooms will be redecorated. The cost of the work on seven rooms will be £8,871. Cllr Martin Leaves (Con, Peverell) said: "I can't believe I am reading this at a time of austerity."
But Cabinet member Cllr Mark Lowry welcomed the redecoration of the committee rooms, saying: "They host not just ourselves but the many visitors to the council."
Work starts this evening on the rooms used by the controlling Labour group, the Conservative group, and the Cabinet Office.

“£8,800 is less than Cllr Leaves' allowance. If the council is really so financially embarrassed that it can't afford a few licks of paint, perhaps this public-spirited paragon could don some overalls, grab a roller and do it himself.”

“oh for God's sake Leaves if you want to moan about austerity have a moan at the bankers or Cameron, Clegg and Osborne instead of this petty point scoring. I think I know the answer to this but is anyone else fed up with the mediocre bunch of career politicians that masquerade as local councillors?”

“So the councillors can afford overnight workers to minimise disruption, but when it comes to working on Laira Bridge then it is too expansive”
