Couple's lifetime of love
A COUPLE who tied the knot in the middle of World War Two have celebrated 70 years as a married couple – and they're more in love than ever.
David and Irene Davies, from St Budeaux first met on a blind date on the Hoe, set up by David's friend.
It was love at first sight and they later married at St Gabriel's in Peverell on August 29, 1942 as Europe was engulfed by war.
Irene said: "I still love him as much now."

In the middle of the war it was difficult to get a wedding dress so many people borrowed them, but Irene was one of the lucky ones.
She said: "I saw the dress in a window, and went into the shop hoping it will be my size. It was the only dress in the shop and it fit me so I bought it."
Irene feels that her wartime wedding made their special day even better.
She said: "We thought my husband was going to be called up and so we got married, there was a sense of urgency."
Irene beat cancer in 1975 and has remained in a positive frame of mind ever since. Sadly David and Irene lost their beloved daughter Wendy to cancer in 1992.
The pair live for their family and have been the backbone to their families since losing Wendy, supported by son-in-law Michael Evans and granddaughter-in-law Clare.
For 46 years David worked for the Civil Service, Ministry of Works and Crown suppliers for which he was awarded the Imperial Service Medal.
The couple celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary on August 29.
And their anniversary has not been the only cause for celebration this month – Mr Davies also notched up his 90th birthday on August 4. Now, after 70 happy years, they are as strong as ever.
Irene said: "The secret to a happy marriage is give and take. As the years go by you grow closer together and you grow into each other's ways."

“..'they later married in1942 as Europe was engulfed by war'..
How romantic, so did Hitler-
HITLER-"Let's get married"
EVA BRAUN- "Oh yes mein fuhrer! And will we be going on honeymoon after the ceremony?"
HITLER- "No, we'll be blowing our brains out"
EVA- "Er..on second thoughts maybe we should get engaged for a while before tying the knot"..”
