A MAN has described how he wrenched a car door open to rescue two women who had been involved in an accident.

Keith Hall, owner of Dogwatch Security Ltd, based in Roborough, had been out with employee Gary Wood when two cars collided on Clittaford Road in Southway just before Christmas.

Keith, aged 45, from Manadon Park, said: "Me and my officer were sat in a Dog vehicle at the new George Wimpey Estate and we saw a Ford Focus and a Vauxhall Tigra collide head-on.

"The Tigra went up in the air and fell at a 45 degree angle. The woman got herself out and onto the grass.

"We ran down and blocked Clittaford Road and put our vehicle's lights on. I got the two ladies out of the Focus by wrenching the door open. The car was smouldering; I thought they might get caught in a fire. The adrenaline was pumping.

"Gary was redirecting traffic on the road and he called the emergency services."

The police arrived and took over, blocking the road, and the fire crews put the driver of the Tigra on a spinal board. The other two women are believed to have been uninjured.

Keith added: "The lady was taken away with her husband but her husband came and thanked us."

The woman was taken to Derriford but no injuries were found and she was discharged on the same day.

Police spokesman Alan Mobbs said: "Both men did the right thing by making sure that the scene was safe and the casualties were cared for.

"They helped ensure that nobody else was injured and that the emergency services were called at an early stage. We're pleased they did the right thing."
