Crownhill Road closed after man claimed he was victim of hit and run
A man who fell over while walking on Crownhill Road in Plymouth told police he believed he was struck by a car which left the scene.
The man was found by police on Crownhill Road at 9:50pm yesterday and police closed the road between Budshead Road and the Blue Monkey roundabout to allow an investigation.
An ambulance was called and the drunken man was found to be suffering from scratches and bruises.
A police spokesman said: "From what the male told us we initially suspected a hit and run but it turns out the man was drunk and his bruises had been inflicted in a previous incident.

The man, aged 46, was taken to Derriford Hospital by ambulance to be checked over but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
The road was reopened at 11pm.
